Mentha piperita

Preparations with mint applied to skin have analgetic (cooling), anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral and freshening effects.

ORIGINS & DESCRIPTION
There are many varieties of mint in nature, but peppermint contains the largest number of medicinal substances. Peppermint is a cross between similar species and it only grows cultivated. The whole plant has a strong aromatic menthol scent, which is characteristic for other mint varieties. Mint was long thought to be an aphrodisiac. The whole plant above the ground has healing properties, but the leaves are the most widely used. Its active substances are menthol, tannins and bitter substances and alpha- and beta-phelandrene.
