It climbs with small roots affixed to the stem mostly on trees up to 25 metres high. It blossoms in summer, while its ash blue fruit ripen in winter. Caution, the ivy fruit is poisonous! Besides climbing, it also crawls on the ground but it never blossoms. The leaves and the peak parts of the stem with flowers have healing properties.


Its main component is glycoside hederyne, but it contains other saponins, organic acids and mineral substances. Even the ancient Druids were aware of ivy´s healing properties. Ivy was used for healing wounds, burns, boils and sun spots. Today it is used in the form of controlled healing preparations for treating catarrh in the respiratory tract and for treating chronic bronchial infections.
